“The 3 hour river trip with Fernando was an absolute delight. We saw a much higher concentration of wildlife in this 3 hours than we had observed during a whole week cruising down the Amazon.”

Kayaking with Local Naturalist Guide

Shared:
$69
Private Tour:
$89

Private tours are subject to availability please check for space in advance.

Duration: Half day

Leaving the lodge by boat with your local naturalist guide and your kayaks, you’ll motor to the entrance of creeks that engines can’t enter. Your guide will unload the kayaks and set you up to paddle the Park’s back water creeks and lagoons in safety and comfort. Kayaking gives you a whole new perspective of the rainforest. From this position you become the river, look up to see what the rainforest canopy looks like, scan the understory of the forest for foragers. In the creek’s silence you may hear a gunshot like crack as the seed pod of the Gavilan tree bursts to disperse its seeds, or hear the call of the Chestnut Mandibled toucan or the sound of Spider monkeys crashing through the trees. After two hours of paddling, you and your guide will pack up your gear and return to the lodge. There is no need to have previous kayaking experience, your guide will give you a full safety briefing and paddling instruction before your tour begins.

Dawn Boat Trip

Minimum 2 Guests (price per person)
$60

Duration: 2 hours

You will be in the rainforest when it wakes. Rise at the crack of dawn for coffee and a light snack before boarding a boat with your local naturalist guide for a 6:00-8:00 AM visit to Tortuguero National Park. The noise and the activity at this hour are remarkable, and worth the early rise. Return to the lodge in time for breakfast.

no smoking Smokers Be Aware!
Costa Rica has recently passed one of the strictest smoking regulations in the world; hotels are 100% SMOKE FREE.
If you and want to smoke, by law you are required to leave the property. This means that you have to be taken by boat across the river to the beach. Boats are available most of the time but not all the time, you may have to wait (10 minutes – 2 hours) for a boat to return to the lodge before you can be taken across.
Boats are NOT available to take you to a place where you can smoke at night. There is an $800 fine for breaking this law.
