“We found Tortuga to be flawless - absolutely worth it”
Impeccable service at every step. Perfect, clear guest communications. We found the food to be of very good quality. Room was lovely and we enormously appreciated the screens instead of windows to feel 'part of the jungle' (minus the bugs). In fact, we opened our curtains at lights out so we could wake to the sunrise. Mentioning bugs - I had no bites during our stay, yet wore repellant only for a walk in the jungle. I recommend flying in; quick and the view is great on a clear day. But most importantly, what we came for: turtles, sloths, huge iguanas, small iguanas, geckos, bats, monkeys, poison dart frogs, snakes, many amazing birds, spiders, butterflies, dragonflies....the jungle delivered!!

Dear JYNZ,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences while at Tortuga Lodge. I'm glad to hear that you found the food to be of very good quality, the time that our Executive Chef, Federico Barrantes, has spent at the lodge is beginning to show results.
It sounds like you were a perfect fit for the lodge, which is designed for guests that are willing to give up some creature comforts for a rain forest immersion experience. It's quite magical when guests are such a good fit and yes, the jungle does deliver!
We hope you had a wonderful time during the rest of your vacation in Costa Rica.

“Highlight of our Costa Rica Trip!”
Tortuguero is a very special, place, inaccessible by car. Its an amazing jungle experience, teaming with wildlife. Tortuga Lodge blends beautifully into this remote location, yet still provides for a wonderful guest experience. We found everything outstanding during our stay. The rooms were comfortable and well cross-ventilated (no air conditioning, but its not needed). The food was excellent, as was the service. The tours on the river and to Tortuguero Village/turtle centre were very well done, and we enjoyed the morning and afternoon garden tours on the property where there were was a huge array of interesting plants and wildlife (including a resident caiman alligator in the nearby pond). TIP: the delightful howler monkeys can be very noisy early in the morning, so earplugs were a welcome addition to our luggage.

Dear Gloria B,
Thank you for sharing your experience at Tortuga Lodge here on Trip Advisor, it's the best way for people considering us for a stay to figure out whether or not we are a good fit.
You're right, the Howler Monkeys are quite noisy, they bark at dawn to let the members of their troop and neighboring troops know where they are. Once they've communicated their location, they go about their business.
Please do come and see us again!

“Fabulous!!”
This is a wonderful place to stay near Tortuguero National Park. The rooms are in lodges within the grounds which are well kept with beautiful plants and flowers. The hotel is situated in the rainforest so you wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys and can easily spot monkeys, birds, igauanas, poison frogs and other wildlife in the grounds. The hotel arranges some great trips - we did the 6am nature walks, kayak and boat trip - all had extremely knowledgeable guides who spotted things we would never have seen on our own. The rooms are very comfortable and clean with safes and excellent free wifi. Outside the rooms there are seats and a hammock. There are insect screens rather than windows but it felt secure and we weren't troubled by insects in the room. Although we brought our own insect repellent there was a supply at reception which you could use free of charge. We decided to take the boat rather than the plane and on the way to the lodge saw amazing birds, monkeys, crocodiles, etc. We're both vegetarians and I can't eat gluten - we had some lovely food and they catered well for us, however, we did find meat in an omelette which they changed immediately. There aren't any tea and coffee facilities in the rooms but at the dining area you can help yourself to hot drinks. As it's so far from towns and any light pollution the stars at night are amazing - don't forget to look up on your way back to the room! All the staff were very friendly and helpful and we were really sad to leave!

Dear Jenny W,
What a generous review, thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts here on Trip Advisor.
It sounds like you were a perfect fit for the lodge and really enjoyed your surroundings and the facilities.
I was delighted to hear that we did a good job of catering to your vegetarian and gluten free diet. Then I was embarrassed to hear that we served you an omelet with jam in in. I'm very sorry about this, we have been working with our wait staff over the last few months, they are good and really want to learn, but it's been a slow process to go from our former way of doing food (fixed menu) to a la carte.
Thank you for the heads up,
Natalie Ewing
