Tortuga Lodge

Kayaking the Mystical Canals of Tortuguero National Park

Kayak through the majestic canals and rainforest of Tortuguero National Park on this unforgettable two-hour tour. Schedule an early morning or afternoon transfer by boat from the lodge to the quiet backwater creeks and lagoons of the park, where you will launch your kayak. You will be accompanied by a bilingual Tortuguero guide for the duration of the trip.

Discover a new perspective of the rainforest kayaking the Caño Chiquero or Caño Mora canals- natural waterways designated for non-motorized boats only. Exploring the pristine river and rainforest habitat in silence as you glide effortlessly over the water’s surface is the most effective way to see Costa Rica wildlife in its natural state. Look above you into the rainforest canopy and imagine what life is like for the myriad creatures living below – like a river otter nibbling on freshwater crustaceans or a manatee chewing river grass. Close your eyes and listen to the sun-dried seed pod of the Gavilan Tree burst making a gunshot sound as it disperses its seeds, the call of the Chestnut Mandible Toucan in the distance, and the sound of Spider monkeys crashing through the trees. Your experienced naturalist guide will point out birds and animals hidden in the rainforest foliage and explain how diverse coastal ecosystems coexist in perfect synchronicity.
